# WhatsApp AI Human-Handoff Reliability Standard

The Future Studio · CLEAR Handoff Framework · Version 1.0 · 26 August 2026

## Definition

WhatsApp AI human handoff is the controlled transfer of a customer conversation from automation to a named person or team, with context, ownership, and the next action preserved.

## CLEAR controls

### C — Clarify

- State the automation's role and approved scope.
- Do not impersonate a person or create false certainty.
- Explain the next step and realistic timing.

### L — Listen

- Detect intent, urgency, frustration, risk, and language.
- Recognise an explicit request for a person.
- Identify when the message is outside the approved scope.

### E — Escalate

- Provide a prompt, clear, direct human or support route.
- Do not trap the customer in repeated automation.
- Maintain an alternative route for unavailable or failed handoffs.

### A — Assign

- Assign a named person or queue.
- Transfer the customer's need, urgency, language, prior answers, and expected next action.
- Use only the minimum context needed for the handoff.

### R — Recover

- Detect unaccepted handoffs, overdue responses, and failed messages.
- Stop duplicate automated follow-up when a person takes ownership or the customer opts out.
- Record incidents, review weak conversations, and retest critical scenarios.

## Ten required scenarios

1. Ready-to-buy lead.
2. Custom price or quote.
3. Explicit request for a person.
4. Unsupported performance guarantee.
5. Complaint or frustration.
6. Sensitive personal or payment information.
7. After-hours enquiry.
8. Failed or delayed handoff.
9. Existing customer or duplicate record.
10. Bilingual or mixed-language message.

## Evidence to retain

- Test message and timestamp.
- AI response.
- Handoff route and timing.
- Owner notification.
- Context received by the owner.
- CRM, shared-inbox, or task record.
- Recovery alert or follow-up state.
- Final outcome and retest status.

## Critical failures

- No direct escalation route.
- An explicit request for a person is resisted or ignored.
- Sensitive identifiers are requested, repeated, or exposed.
- An unsupported guarantee is presented as fact.
- A failed handoff has no recovery owner.
- Automated follow-up continues after a person takes ownership or an opt-out is received.

## Boundary

This is an operational testing standard, not a certification, legal opinion, security audit, compliance guarantee, or industry benchmark. Adapt it to the business, deployment, applicable policies, and professional advice.
